Budget Approved - Override Vote May
16th |
|
The Annual Town Meeting has approved a budget for FY07,
contingent upon voter approval of a $3.16 million
override of Proposition 2 1/2.
After six nights of thoughtful discussion and debate,
Town Meeting approved the operating and capital budgets for
all Town of Wellesley departments.
The $3.16 million override includes:
- $2,694,862 for the Wellesley Public Schools
- $286,150 for the Board of Public Works
- $27,323 for the Board of Health
- $121,533 for the Board of Selectmen
- $28,750 for the Recreation Commission
A full description of the Gap Lists (i.e. what is
specifically identified in each budget to be cut if the
override fails) will be detailed in the upcoming
newsletter from the newly formed campaign committee (see
below).
After significant debate, the Board of Selectmen
withdrew the initial proposal to include specific capital
projects in a debt exclusion. These items, including school
capital projects proposed for FY08 and FY09, will be further
reviewed before bringing to a future Town Meeting. This debt
exclusion was a new approach, bundling multiple capital
projects for funding. While the concept has merit, Town
Meeting determined that further work was needed to develop a
process for this funding strategy.
Note: The WPS Capital Budget for FY07 was
approved.
